Trefis Team, writing for Forbes (7/10/12 Forbes.com, Investing section), speculates LinkedIn’s biggest threat might be Facebook.  Rumor has it Facebook is working on a job board that might draw much of LinkedIn’s recruitment dollars.  Looking just at the numbers, I can understand why.  Facebook’s 900 million users somewhat dwarf LinkedIn’s 150 million.

Nevertheless, you have to look at more than just the numbers.  LinkedIn has a very positive reputation, stability, professionalism, and a track record that positions it as the leader in this arena.  LinkedIn was first to the party with professional online networking and job connections.

Facebook remains more of a casual social media site.  That said, we are all familiar with Facebook’s propensity for change.  Increasing numbers of businesses are establishing a Facebook presence.  Perhaps some of that change will recast the professional online networking world once again.

The evolution–if there is one–will be interesting to watch.
